Positive Waves at Goldfish Swim School Carmel

Goldfish Swim School is a valued partner of DelightStruck Jen (and the Lou, aka Baby Girl), and we kind of love being able to share our swim story with you. Happy reading.

It's Tuesday. Baby girl's favorite day of the week. I love how BIG her grin gets on Tuesday evenings as she bops down the stairs in her swim suit, with towel and goggles in hand and asks if it's time to leave yet for her weekly Goldfish Swim School Swim Force session.

Positive Waves at Goldfish Swim School Carmel

Yes, we have the foundation of Goldfish Swim School lessons under our belt, but I am still constantly amazed at the progress she continues to make as a swimmer through their Swim Force swim team - really amazing positive waves in so many ways. A lot of that I think is because of her amazing teachers. They push her, in the kindest most encouraging way I've ever seen. Because of them, she wants to do her own personal best each and every week. It's not really work in her head either, it's fun and she truly wants to be better and grow in her stroke skills and improve her speed and technique. There is no place she'd rather be than in the pool.

This past week she had a huge milestone. She swam an individual medley for time trials for her first meet. I could see through the glass that she was doubting herself a little. It was a big hurdle to tackle - all four strokes in one race and no stopping to rest. I could also see through the glass her teacher smiling and saying you got this. Her teacher then sat at the end of the lane and cheered her on as she timed her race. Baby girl did it! Her legs may have been jelly as she got out at the end, but she did it. Her face here says it all.

Yes, I love that baby girl is happy, but as a mama these are the top five things that I've noticed over the last few months of Swim Force that make me grin and leave me totally delightstruck!

  • Her confidence continues to grow. Not only in the water, but as a whole. It's beautiful.
  • She is stronger. As an athlete she is growing, evolving and discovering a sport she truly loves!
  • She's making friends with like interests. She enjoys catching up weekly with the friends. I love that Goldfish schedules families the same day and time each week. Faces become familiar and you get a little community of swimmer friends for your given lesson or practice night.
  • She's comfortable in water. She knows water safety, and has become brave about facing fears and trying new things, like the one step higher diving board at Forest Park. She rocked it.
  • Because of her, I've gotten back into the water to work on my strokes. Yes, I was once a swimmer too. I even demoed butterfly for her this past week. It wasn't pretty people, but I did it and this mama's still got it. Even if Baby Girl says otherwise.

My Greatest Challenge | Faith Friday

My nephew texted earlier this week and asked if he could interview me for a homework project. Little did I know the question coming wasn't an easy one, and it would bring tears and hard memories. He said he was supposed to ask someone over 30 and not his parents about the biggest challenge in their life. I advised I'd need a bit to think on that. It didn't take long. I was able to pinpoint it easily. Infertility. Growing up I always knew I wanted to be a mom. I never knew it wouldn't come easy. Coach Man and I struggled for five years to have a child. During our struggle, I often couldn't understand why God was withholding my heart's desires and how other women, made a choice, and just threw away the gift of motherhood like no biggie. What I would have given for that child that they didn't want. Hey, girl, over here! Give it to me. I'll love the heck out of that baby! Really, I will. During those years, all I could see around me was pregnan

Word of the Year: Conquer

As a writer, I adore words. I always have, even as a little girl. They're like old friends to me. My 2019 word of the year is conquer, along with two supporting words - contemplate and celebrate. The three together may seem random and odd, but to me they all go hand in hand with the growth I have in mind for this year. 2018 was a year full of hard things. No worse than any other people's hard things, but still hard things. We moved, a new job for Coach Man, new schools for the hooligans, navigating a new high deductible insurance plan that does not cover insulin for the type 1 diabetic in the family (#insulin4all - but we'll chat that in another blog, because oh do I have some things to say), a health discovery for one of the kiddos and a major medical issue for Coach Man right before Christmas. It was definitely a year that kept us on our toes, but also a year filled with joy as we tackled the hurdles head on and with purpose. Well, we are a football family, so tack
