Heart-Felt Budget-Friendly Gift Giving

When you're Dave Ramsey-ing it up, gift giving can be a conundrum. You want to stay the course and reach your goals, but it's also fun to celebrate those you love as well.

In late 2017, Coach Man and I began to try to think about gift giving in a whole new way. It was the first year that we didn't go overboard on Christmas and have regrets come January. We're beginning to see that gifts aren't always necessary, and often the gift of time is more precious. That's not to say there aren't times when a gift is appropriate and your heart just wants to do it. I'd say for this mama it's when a moment calls most for a delightstruck gift. Something within your budget and full of meaning.

This past weekend was one of those. It was my MIL's 60th birthday. A milestone and definitely a day to celebrate someone we all love dearly. My sister-in-law and I put on our thinking caps to identify the perfect gift! It started the weekend before!

We had the chance to help our teen sister-in-law get ready for her senior prom. She happens to be the last one out of the nest for our MIL, and all this year's senior events are a bit bittersweet for her. Her last baby making her way into the world. We understand and were sneaky and hired a super affordable photographer to show-up for pictures before prom. We were even sneakier and hid the best picture from the shoot until this past weekend! A beautiful moment captured and framed, married up with a fun candy and lotto ticket bouquet. We knocked it out of the park, peeps. She got teary-eyed and loved her presents. They were all heart-felt and within our budgets. Plus she's a sweet Grandma and deserves a little something special in her life.

I have to say this is total #delightstruck moment! I love that Shannon Dalton Photography captured it! You can see the love radiating between the two of them. A moment in time.

The story that went along with the candy bouquet:

That's It, they've all almost flown the nest and Goodness Knows you're exhausted, "butter" it's been full of Good & Plenty of wonderful moments. Now it's time to Take 5 for your Hot Tamale self, win big and wink at Mr. Good(bar). Know that we love you to Pieces and thank you for being a Lifesaver of a good mama. Cheers to many more to come.

Included:

That's It fruit bar
Goodness Knows bar
Butterfinger
Good & Plenty
Take 5
Hot Tamales
5 Lotto Tickets
Mr. Goodbar
Reese Pieces
Gummy Lifesavers

Now that I think of it I could have included a little mini-bottle of something for the cheers part. Oh well, next candy bouquet.

My Greatest Challenge | Faith Friday

My nephew texted earlier this week and asked if he could interview me for a homework project. Little did I know the question coming wasn't an easy one, and it would bring tears and hard memories. He said he was supposed to ask someone over 30 and not his parents about the biggest challenge in their life. I advised I'd need a bit to think on that. It didn't take long. I was able to pinpoint it easily. Infertility. Growing up I always knew I wanted to be a mom. I never knew it wouldn't come easy. Coach Man and I struggled for five years to have a child. During our struggle, I often couldn't understand why God was withholding my heart's desires and how other women, made a choice, and just threw away the gift of motherhood like no biggie. What I would have given for that child that they didn't want. Hey, girl, over here! Give it to me. I'll love the heck out of that baby! Really, I will. During those years, all I could see around me was pregnan

Word of the Year: Conquer

As a writer, I adore words. I always have, even as a little girl. They're like old friends to me. My 2019 word of the year is conquer, along with two supporting words - contemplate and celebrate. The three together may seem random and odd, but to me they all go hand in hand with the growth I have in mind for this year. 2018 was a year full of hard things. No worse than any other people's hard things, but still hard things. We moved, a new job for Coach Man, new schools for the hooligans, navigating a new high deductible insurance plan that does not cover insulin for the type 1 diabetic in the family (#insulin4all - but we'll chat that in another blog, because oh do I have some things to say), a health discovery for one of the kiddos and a major medical issue for Coach Man right before Christmas. It was definitely a year that kept us on our toes, but also a year filled with joy as we tackled the hurdles head on and with purpose. Well, we are a football family, so tack
